General Mom

Mom-of-5, building a home in California, step by step, with Faith and Feistiness ~ by General Mom Contractor

Month: August, 2013

Ready, Set, Go

It’s been two weeks since our grounding breaking dedication. Our grading contractor has been transforming the land every day. The driveway was cut into a fantastic curvy path that will provide years of fun for the kids to play on it. Since its a 20% slope, it will be like a roller coaster for them. We’re wondering how many ER visits we will have!

Now that the pad is flat and the keyways have been finished, we are ready for the concrete contractors!

Groundbreaking Dedication!

It was the big day that we have been planning for over a year… we finally broke ground!

We invited 25 professionals that have been working with us for a year and some who will be working with us soon. It was nice to see everyone chatting and putting faces with names while eating donuts and coffee.

Our Pastor said a prayer of dedication to the Lord that was so beautiful that my eyes welled with gratitude. He specifically prayed for blessing and protection for all those working on the project. I pray the hearts listening were blessed and felt honored.

I still can’t believe we finally made it!

The ‘baby’ has arrived – The Grading Permit!

She’s finally here…the grading permit!  We like to call her “Goldie”!  Labor lasted 7 months but General Mom and permit are doing well and recovering!

I have so much joy over getting this permit!  Santa Clara County is known for being one of the strictest and conservative places to get a grading permit.  I certainly didn’t get the grading permit all by myself.  I am so thankful for the many people who worked hard on the plans, the research, and the relationships that were built at the county.  Phase two is the people who will execute the plans next week!

First step is our surveyor will stake in phases.  He is a very important strategist in the project.   He will layout where the driveway, house and yard goes.  Then he comes back to show where the foundation goes, then the 100 year flood drainage, and the final grade.  Our grading contractor, who is skilled on hillsides, will create just the right slopes for the driveway and prepare the pad for the house.

Next baby is due to arrive next week…the building permit for the house!
